ANS, the American Nuclear Society, was founded on December 11, 1954 at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. as a not-for-profit association to promote the growing nuclear field, and today has a diverse membership of roughly 10,000 to 11,000 engineers, scientists, administrators and educators.
