Electrical Engineering

Samuel Morse was an American painter turned inventor who developed a single-wire electrical telegraph system and, with Alfred Vail, the Morse code used to send text over it. He sent the first public long-distance message, "What hath God wrought," from Washington to Baltimore on May 24, 1844, and his system became the standard for telegraphy in the United States.
