Walter Brattain was an American physicist at Bell Telephone Laboratories who worked with John Bardeen to build the first working point-contact transistor in December 1947, contributing the experimental skill that turned Bardeen's theoretical insight into a working device. He shared the 1956 Nobel Prize in Physics with Bardeen and William Shockley.
