Walter Frederick Morrison (23 January 1920 to 9 February 2010) was an American inventor and entrepreneur who invented the Frisbee. Born in Richfield, Utah, he said the idea of a flying disc toy first came to him in 1937 while throwing a popcorn can lid, and he and his future wife Lucile Nay later sold Flyin Cake Pans on the beaches of Los Angeles. After serving as a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot in Italy during the Second World War he sketched the first flying disc design in 1946, and in 1955 he and Lucile designed the Pluto Platter, the archetype of all modern flying discs. They sold the rights to the Wham-O toy company on 23 January 1957, and by June of that year the toy was also marketed as the Frisbee.
