Francis Joseph Pigott (1865 to 1939) was a British engineer who spent his career in public works in Ceylon and the Straits Settlements. Born in Ceylon and educated at Blackheath Grammar School in London, he trained at the Crystal Palace Company's engineering school and began work in 1882 as an assistant engineer with the contractors Lucas and Aird, which led to a post on the construction of Tilbury Dock. In 1887 he returned to Ceylon and rose through the Public Works Department, serving as a tracer, District Engineer in several districts, Municipal Engineer of Colombo and acting assistant director. In 1905 he moved to Penang as Deputy Colonial Engineer and Surveyor-General, and he held the post of Colonial Engineer and Surveyor-General in the Straits Settlements until he retired in 1921. He died in Sydney in 1939, and Jalan Pigott, formerly Pigott Road, in George Town, Penang, is named after him.
