Jan M. Rabaey is an electrical engineer and educator in integrated circuit technology and design, and an IEEE Life Fellow. In 1995 he published the textbook Digital Integrated Circuits: A Design Perspective, which was the first book to address all aspects of the design of digital CMOS circuits and the design automation tools that go with them. He was an early adopter of the worldwide web for teaching, putting assignment problems, project ideas and lecture slides online for students and instructors. His research has centered on ultra-low energy circuit design, system design and integration, ubiquitous wireless networks, wearable devices and biomedical interfaces. He directed the Berkeley Wireless Center and the Gigascale Systems Research Center, graduated 61 doctoral students, and is Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, and a chief technology officer at imec in Belgium. In 2024 he co-wrote the booklet Chips for general readers with Pieter Van Nuffel, and in 2025 he received the IEEE James H. Mulligan, Jr. Education Medal.
