Calculating and Computing Machine Pioneers

Engineers and mathematicians who designed mechanical machines to do arithmetic, tabulate functions or carry out stored sequences of operations, from geared difference engines that print tables to general purpose designs with a separate store and processing unit. A person belongs here when the cited article credits them with designing or building a calculating or computing machine as their main engineering work. Builders of electronic computers belong with computer engineering, and makers of clocks and precision instruments belong in the clockmaking group of the same field.
