Kazimierz Siemienowicz (about 1600 to about 1651) was a military engineer, gunsmith and general of artillery from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and one of the pioneers of rocketry. Born in the Raseiniai region of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, he served in the armies of the Commonwealth and of Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange, took part in the Smolensk War and the siege of Hulst, and from 1648 served as second in command of the Polish Royal Artillery. Polish, Lithuanian and Belarusian traditions each claim him, and no portrait or detailed biography survives. In 1650 he published Artis Magnae Artilleriae pars prima in Amsterdam, a treatise on artillery, rocketry and pyrotechnics that served as a basic European artillery manual for about two centuries and was the first book to present multistage rockets and rocket artillery systematically.
