He was born on 28 February 1782 in Biery, in the region of Cieszyn Silesia, and died in Prague on 21 October 1835. He is considered one of the founders of Czech mechanics. He put into operation one of the first steam engines in the Czech lands. His sons, František and Romuald, also became accomplished engineers, so that the family carried his mechanical work into a second generation.
