Turboshaft

A turboshaft engine is a form of gas turbine engine optimized to produce shaft horsepower rather than jet thrust. In concept it is very similar to a turbojet, but with additional turbine stages that extract more energy from the exhaust and convert it into output shaft power instead of thrust. It is even more similar to a turboprop, with only minor differences between the two, and a single engine design is often sold in both turboshaft and turboprop forms.
