Flatbed Scanner

A flatbed scanner is a type of image scanner, a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object and converts it into a digital image, built around a glass bed, or platen, on which the item being scanned lies motionless while the scanning element moves beneath the glass to capture it. The first flatbed scanner built for digital image processing was the Autokon line, introduced by ECRM Inc. in 1975, which used a laser beam to scan pages up to eleven by fourteen inches at resolutions up to a thousand lines per inch, though it was limited to scanning in monochrome.
