Oscilloscope

Electrical Engineering

An oscilloscope is a type of electronic test instrument that graphically displays the varying voltage of one or more signals as a function of time, mainly so an engineer can capture information about electrical signals for debugging, analysis or characterization. The displayed waveform can be examined for properties such as amplitude, frequency, rise time, time interval and distortion. Early oscilloscopes required an operator to measure the waveform by hand against the scales built into the instrument's screen, while modern digital oscilloscopes calculate and display these properties directly.
