InterCity-Express

InterCity-Express, or ICE, is Germany's high speed electric rail system, operated by Deutsche Bahn and also serving Austria, France, Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands on cross border routes. The network was officially inaugurated on 29 May 1991 and regular scheduled ICE trains began running on 2 June 1991, connecting major German cities from Hamburg through Frankfurt to Munich. ICE trains reach speeds up to 300 kilometers per hour within Germany and 320 kilometers per hour in France, and the ICE 3 generation became the development base for the Siemens Velaro family of trainsets, which have since been exported to Spain, China, Russia and other countries.
