Chainsaw

A chainsaw is a portable, handheld power saw that cuts using a set of teeth attached to a rotating chain driven along a guide bar. Modern chainsaws are typically powered by a gasoline engine or an electric motor and are used for tasks such as felling trees, limbing, bucking, pruning, cutting firebreaks during wildland fire suppression, and harvesting firewood, as well as specialized uses like chainsaw art, chainsaw milling, and cutting concrete or ice. Precursors to the modern chainsaw were first used in surgery, and patents for wood-cutting chainsaws began appearing in the late nineteenth century.
