Corkscrew

A corkscrew is a tool for drawing corks from wine bottles and other corked household bottles, traditionally consisting of a pointed metal helix, often called the worm, attached to a handle that the user screws into the cork before pulling it free. Corkscrews are needed because a cork is small, smooth and difficult to grip once pushed fully into a rigid glass bottle, and more recent corkscrew designs add systems of levers that increase the outward force that can be applied to a difficult cork.
