Micrometer

A micrometer, sometimes called a micrometer screw gauge, is a device built around a calibrated screw that allows the accurate measurement of the size of components. It is widely used in mechanical engineering, machining, and metrology, alongside other dimensional instruments such as dial, vernier, and digital calipers, and is usually, though not always, built in the form of a caliper. Its spindle is a precisely machined screw, and an object is measured by turning the ratchet knob or thimble until the object is lightly touched by both the spindle and the anvil.
