This group gathers mechanical engineering inventions built for use in and around the home, including the sewing machine, washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator, vacuum cleaner, stove, toaster and other kitchen and cleaning appliances, alongside the flush toilet, food steamer, pressure cooker and lawn mower. Their shared work is easing domestic labor or comfort in a private household, as distinct from the industrial machinery, tools and transportation inventions built for a workplace, worksite or journey.
