Optical Spectrometer

An optical spectrometer is an instrument used to measure properties of light over a specific portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, most often used in spectroscopic analysis to identify materials. The quantity most commonly measured is the irradiance of the light, though a spectrometer can also measure other properties such as its polarization state, typically as a function of wavelength or a closely related quantity such as wavenumber or photon energy.
