System and Data Management Software

Core software that runs a computer and keeps its data in order, including the operating system, which manages hardware and software resources and gives common services to programs, and the relational database, which stores data by the relational model proposed by E. F. Codd in 1970. An invention belongs here when the cited article describes it as an operating system or a database system. It excludes programming languages and the applications that run on top of such systems.
