Warping Machine

Textile Engineering

A warping machine is a piece of textile machinery that winds yarn from many individual bobbins or spools onto a single large warp beam, arranging the threads in parallel and under even tension in preparation for weaving. Mechanized warping developed alongside the broader mechanization of spinning and weaving during the Industrial Revolution in Britain, replacing the slower hand-operated warping frames and mills that textile workers had used for centuries, and warping machines were refined considerably through the nineteenth century as factory-scale weaving expanded. A properly prepared warp beam is essential to weaving efficiently on a power loom, since uneven or tangled warp threads cause frequent breaks and stoppages.
