Energy Catalyzer

Nuclear Engineering

The Energy Catalyzer, also called the E-Cat, is a device presented by its inventor Andrea Rossi, with support from the physicist Sergio Focardi, as a cold fusion reactor that produces excess heat by infusing heated hydrogen into nickel powder and transmuting it into copper. An Italian patent describing the apparatus was granted without technical examination, while a later international patent application received an unfavorable report concluding the device conflicted with accepted physical law. Rossi has staged several demonstrations and tests of the device over the years, but no independent or peer reviewed test of its claimed output has ever been published, and commentators including a 2012 Popular Science article described his claims for it as thoroughly debunked.
