Enterprise architecture

Enterprise architecture is a business function concerned with an organization structures and behaviors, particularly the business roles and processes that create and use its data. The Federation of Enterprise Architecture Professional Organizations defines it as a well defined practice for conducting enterprise analysis, design, planning and implementation using a comprehensive approach, in support of successfully developing and executing strategy. Enterprise architects apply architecture principles to guide the business, information, process and technology changes an organization needs to carry out its strategy, working above solution architects who focus on individual departments rather than the whole organization. Organizations including the United States federal government, Independence Blue Cross, Intel, Volkswagen and InterContinental Hotels Group have used enterprise architecture to improve their business architectures and increase productivity through structured planning and integration of information systems.
