Pair programming is a software development method in which two programmers work together at a single workstation: one, the driver, writes the source code, while the other, called the observer or navigator, reviews each line as it is typed, and the two switch roles regularly. While reviewing, the observer also attends to the strategic direction of the work, proposing improvements and anticipating problems the team is likely to meet, which is intended to free the driver to concentrate fully on the tactical work of completing the current task, using the observer as a safety net and a guide.
