Infrastructure as code

Infrastructure as code is a method of managing and provisioning computing infrastructure, such as servers and virtual machines, through machine readable definition files rather than through manual configuration or interactive setup tools. These definitions are typically declarative, stored in version control, and applied automatically to bring machines into a pre-set configuration. The approach is intended to reduce cost by cutting manual configuration work, speed up deployment, and lower risk by removing human error from setup, which decreases downtime. Infrastructure as code is closely tied to DevOps practice, since it draws developers into configuration decisions and brings operations teams into the development process earlier.
