The Corinth Canal is a Greek canal that connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea, cutting through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth to separate the Peloponnese peninsula from the Greek mainland. Completed in 1893, it was dug through the isthmus at sea level with no locks, is 6.4 kilometers long and only 24.6 meters wide at sea level, which makes it impassable for many modern ships, and it is now of little economic importance, serving mainly as a tourist attraction.
