Gigafactory Shanghai, also called Giga Shanghai, is an automobile manufacturing plant in Shanghai, China, operated by Tesla, Inc. Construction began in January 2019 and the first vehicles rolled off the line in December 2019, less than a year after groundbreaking, making it Tesla's first wholly foreign-owned car manufacturing plant in China. The plant manufactures the Model 3 and Model Y and serves as Tesla's main export hub for Europe, Canada and the Asia-Pacific region. It has since become Tesla's largest and most productive manufacturing site, with an annual production capacity reported at more than 950,000 vehicles.
