Homestead Steel Works was a large steel mill on the Monongahela River at Homestead, Pennsylvania, originally built for the Pittsburgh Bessemer Steel Company and expanded rapidly after Andrew Carnegie purchased it in 1883. Like the neighboring Edgar Thomson Works, it drew on tributary coal and iron fields and was served by the Union Railroad and a line of lake steamships, and it was the site of one of the most notable labor disputes in United States history, the Homestead strike of 1892.
