National Grid (India)

The National Grid is the high voltage electricity transmission network that connects power stations and major substations across India, allowing electricity generated anywhere in the country to be used to meet demand elsewhere. It is owned and maintained by the state-owned Power Grid Corporation of India and operated by the Power System Operation Corporation. India began managing its grid on a regional basis in the 1960s, and the five regional grids, Northern, Eastern, Western, North Eastern and Southern, were fully interconnected into one nationwide synchronous grid with the commissioning of a transmission line at the end of 2013. As of mid 2020 the grid carried an installed generation capacity of more than 371 gigawatts, and it also links synchronously to Bhutan and asynchronously to Bangladesh, Myanmar and Nepal.
