The Next Generation Air Transportation System, known as NextGen, is the Federal Aviation Administration's program to modernize the National Airspace System. The FAA began NextGen work in 2007 with planned completion by 2030, using new technologies and procedures to raise the safety, efficiency, capacity, access, flexibility and resilience of the airspace system while reducing aviation's environmental impact.
