The synchronous grid of Northern Europe, also called the Nordic System, is an electrical transmission grid composed of the interconnected networks of Norway, Sweden, Finland and eastern Denmark, joined into one synchronous zone since 2009. It was managed by the coordinating body Nordel from 1963 until its integration into the pan European body ENTSO-E in 2009, and it is not itself synchronized with the Continental Europe Synchronous Area, connecting to it and other grids instead through several non synchronous direct current links.
