The Western Interconnection is a wide area synchronous electrical grid covering western North America and is one of the two major alternating current power grids making up the North American transmission system, the other being the Eastern Interconnection. Several smaller interconnections operate alongside it, including the Quebec Interconnection, the Texas Interconnection and the Alaska Interconnections.
