The Wolfsburg Volkswagen Plant is the worldwide headquarters of the Volkswagen Group and the flagship manufacturing plant of the German automaker Volkswagen, located in Wolfsburg in the state of Lower Saxony. It is one of the largest manufacturing plants in the world, covering an area of just under 6.5 million square meters with 1.6 million square meters of building space, and it produced 815,000 cars in 2015 alone. In mid-2023 around 61,880 people worked at the plant, which was the largest factory in the world, more than three times the area of Monaco, until Tesla's Gigafactory in Texas overtook it in grounds area in 2022, though Wolfsburg still has the larger factory floor. The plant is also known for producing Volkswagen's own currywurst sausage, served in its staff cafeterias.
