Azita Emami

Electrical Engineering

Azita Emami is the Andrew and Peggy Cherng Professor of Electrical Engineering and Medical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, where she is also Executive Officer of the Department of Electrical Engineering and an investigator at the Heritage Medical Research Institute. Born in Nain, Iran, she studied electronic engineering at Sharif University of Technology and took her master and doctoral degrees at Stanford University, then worked at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center and taught at Columbia University before joining Caltech in 2007. Her group designs low-power mixed-mode integrated circuits for data communication, sensing and biomedical devices. Projects include ultra-low power flexible circuits for retinal implants developed with the Doheny Eye Institute, intraocular pressure sensors for glaucoma patients, an implantable glucose monitor, and magnetic resonance based locating chips called ATOMS.
