Donald G. Fink

Electrical Engineering

Donald G. Fink (1911 to 1996) was an American electrical engineer who helped shape both radio navigation and television engineering in the United States. A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he edited the magazine Electronics before and after the Second World War, and during the war worked at the MIT Radiation Laboratory, travelling overseas to install LORAN navigation stations. He later became vice president for research at Philco and then director of the Philco-Ford scientific laboratories. Fink chaired the Institute of Radio Engineers Television System Committee, took part in the NTSC committee of the early 1950s, and proposed the 525-line resolution of NTSC television. He was president of the Institute of Radio Engineers and then general manager of the IEEE from 1963 to 1974, and he edited the Standard Handbook for Electrical Engineers and the Electronics Engineers' Handbook.
