John Bardeen was an American physicist and electrical engineer at Bell Telephone Laboratories who, with Walter Brattain, built the first working point-contact transistor in December 1947. He is the only person to win the Nobel Prize in Physics twice, once for the transistor in 1956 and again in 1972 for a theory of superconductivity.
