Peter Onions was an English ironmaster and the inventor of an early puddling process used to refine pig iron into wrought iron. He was born in 1724 in Broseley, Shropshire, later moved to Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, and married Elizabeth Guest, the sister of John Guest. In 1783 he received patent number 1370 for his invention, and he died in 1798. Henry Cort later improved on Onions's process during the development of his own puddling furnace. The source for this entry is a short Grace's Guide biography, so the record is limited to these facts and leaves further detail on his career and works to later research.
