Seismic Source

Geological Engineering

A seismic source is a device that generates controlled seismic energy for reflection and refraction seismic surveys. It can be as simple as dynamite or use more sophisticated technology such as a specialized air gun, and can provide either single pulses or continuous sweeps of energy that generate seismic waves traveling through water or rock. Some of those waves reflect and refract back and are recorded by receivers such as geophones or hydrophones.
