Radiation Detection Pioneers

Physicists who invented or improved the instruments that detect ionizing radiation, above all the Geiger counter, which clicks as radiation passes through a gas-filled tube, and the Geiger-Muller tube that made the counter a dependable everyday instrument for laboratories, mines and civil defense. A person belongs here when the cited article credits the person with inventing or improving a radiation counter. It excludes reactor builders and the administrators of nuclear laboratories.
