Electric Motor

Electrical Engineering

An electric motor is a machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Most electric motors work through the interaction between the motor's own magnetic field and an electric current flowing in a wire winding, which generates a Lorentz force that appears as torque on the motor's shaft. An electric generator is mechanically the same kind of machine run in reverse, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy instead. Quote, Associated With: Washing Machine, Types section, Top-loading, Agitation subsection
While a top-loading washing machine could use a universal motor or DC brushless motor, it is conventional for top-loading washing machines to use more expensive, heavy, and potentially more electrically efficient and reliable induction motors.
