An electric motor is a machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Most electric motors work through the interaction between the motor's own magnetic field and an electric current flowing in a wire winding, which generates a Lorentz force that appears as torque on the motor's shaft. An electric generator is mechanically the same kind of machine run in reverse, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy instead.
