A clutch is a mechanical device that allows an output shaft to be disconnected from a rotating input shaft. Its input shaft is typically attached to a motor, while its output shaft connects to the mechanism that performs the work, so that engaging or disengaging the clutch connects or interrupts the transfer of power between the two.
