0 Series Shinkansen

The 0 Series was the Shinkansen high-speed train type that Japanese National Railways introduced in October 1964 to open the Tokaido Shinkansen, the worlds first dedicated high-speed rail line, and so became the train that founded Japans entire bullet train network. Japanese manufacturers built 3,216 cars across 201 sets between 1963 and 1986, and the type won the eighth Blue Ribbon Award in 1965 for its design; it stayed in scheduled service for forty-four years before the last sets were retired in 2008.
