Acela

Acela is Amtrak's high speed intercity rail service on the Northeast Corridor of the United States, connecting Boston and Washington, D.C. through thirteen intermediate stops including Providence, New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore over a 457 mile route. Service began on 11 December 2000, and the trains reach a maximum speed of 160 miles per hour on about 40 miles of the corridor, making Acela the fastest passenger rail service in the Americas even though station stops and infrastructure limits bring its average speed to around 70 miles per hour. In fiscal year 2025 Acela carried more than 3.1 million passengers and generated about 570 million dollars in revenue, competing directly with air shuttles along the corridor.
