The Dreamachine, a contraction of Dream Machine, is a stroboscopic device invented in 1959 by the artist Brion Gysin and the mathematician Ian Sommerville. It produces flickering light at a set frequency that a viewer experiences with closed eyes, generating eidetic visual stimuli, meaning vivid patterned imagery seen entirely inside the mind rather than projected on any screen.
