Life Support and Resuscitation Equipment

Machines that keep a patient alive or restart failing organs, including the medical ventilator, iron lung, heart-lung machine, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, automated external defibrillator and nebulizer. An invention belongs here when its cited article describes a device that takes over or assists breathing, circulation or heart rhythm, or delivers breathing treatment. It excludes diagnostic instruments and the implants that stay in the body for years. These devices are found in intensive care units, operating theatres and public places, and many were developed in response to epidemics or to the need to operate on the heart.
