A fluidized bed reactor is a type of reactor device used to carry out multiphase chemical reactions. A fluid, gas or liquid, is passed through a bed of solid granular material, typically a catalyst, at a velocity high enough to suspend the solid particles so they behave as though they were a fluid, a process called fluidization. This fluidized state imparts several important advantages over other reactor designs, which is why fluidized bed reactors are used across a wide range of industrial applications.
