The kraft process is the preeminent industrial method for converting wood into wood pulp, a product of almost pure cellulose fibers that forms the main component of paper. Carl F. Dahl of Danzig patented the process in 1885, and the first kraft paper was produced at the Munksjo mill in Jonkoping, Sweden, using Dahl's method; the process takes its name from the Swedish and German word for strength, reflecting the notable strength of the resulting paper. Kraft pulp is used unbleached for bags, wrapping and linerboard, and bleached to make various white paper products.
