Kubernetes

Kubernetes is a system for automating the deployment, scaling and management of containerized applications across clusters of computers, grouping an application's containers into units called pods that it schedules, monitors and restarts as needed. Google designed Kubernetes internally, drawing on more than a decade of experience running containers company-wide with an earlier, proprietary cluster manager called Borg, and released it as open-source software in June 2014 under the stewardship of engineers including Joe Beda, Brendan Burns and Craig McLuckie. Google donated the project to the newly formed Cloud Native Computing Foundation in 2015, and Kubernetes went on to become the dominant container-orchestration system used to run large-scale applications in data centers and public clouds worldwide.
