A longbow is a tall bow that allows a long draw, giving it substantial power as a weapon for hunting and warfare, and it was traditionally made from a single piece of wood, most often yew, with wych elm used as a substitute when yew was scarce. European longbows date back to the Paleolithic era, but the weapon is most closely associated with medieval England and Wales, where longbowmen played a decisive role in battles such as those of the Hundred Years' War against France, cementing the longbow's lasting cultural and military reputation.
