Memory Typewriter

A memory typewriter is a typewriter equipped with a limited amount of internal memory that lets the user retain and recall text and documents rather than retyping them from scratch. The devices were first introduced in the 1940s to help produce legal documents containing large amounts of repetitive standard language, and their use peaked during the 1970s, when they significantly cut down the time needed to revise contracts and other legal agreements. Memory typewriters are now largely obsolete, superseded by word processors and computers, though some manufacturers continue to produce them in limited quantities.
